The boom of boutique hotels in Córdoba: chic accommodation for special getaways

The boutique hotel concept is here to stay. These types of establishments have settled in the city to offer high-quality services and a closer relationship with the client, so that any guest can find an authentic home away from home in these rooms.

The list of boutique hotels is getting longer and longer. Some have recently opened their doors, others will soon, and there are also lodgings that are in the process of obtaining this category of boutique, as is the case of La Ermita Suites, in Plaza Abades.

This label marks a distinctive with the rest of traditional accommodation. One of the most frequent characteristics of these boutique hotels is their surroundings, since most of them have been built from small houses or palaces in very well located areas. In the case of Córdoba, there is a wide variety of boutique hotels in the Jewish quarter area.

This option seeks to revitalize the historic quarters, as it offers an alternative to non-mass tourism. Different rooms, careful decoration, personalized services, and a more direct relationship with the client, are some of the main characteristics, as commented by the area manager of the hotel chain Soho Boutique Hotels, Rafael Fernández.

This chain has three establishments of this style in the city. One of them is La Hospedería del Atalia, opened in 2010 and recently incorporated into the chain. Its facilities, which have 20 rooms, will be renovated soon. It is located on Buen Pastor street.

Other of this firm's hotels is the Soho Boutique Capuchinos, near the square that gives it its name. Most of its 27 rooms are different. For its construction, materials from ancient constructions have been used. Its services include its spa with sauna, jacuzzi and Turkish bath.

In July 2020, the third hotel of this chain opened, the Soho Boutique Córdoba, an establishment that, despite having the same philosophy as the firm, has different characteristics since it has 93 rooms.

In these months of its existence, Fernández assures that the occupation has been very high and the balance is positive. However, as a result of the health situation, as has happened in most establishments, this hotel on Avenida de América has suffered several cancellations.

Back around the Jewish quarter we find the Patio del Posadero hotel, the smallest in Córdoba. It is a six-room boutique hotel located on Calleja del Posadero, on Calle Mucho Trigo in the Historic Center of Córdoba.

This lodging was born in March 2015 and is an old house-patio from the 15th century completely restored, preserving the essence of the patios, with the plants and the cobbled floor as central axes from the moment you walk through its doors, as reported by Lisa Cazzola, one of its owners together with José Ariza.

They are in charge of making the breakfasts and brunches every day made with homemade, kilometer 0 and organic products. Among its services, it also has a saltwater pool and a large terrace where breakfast, brunch, lunch, snacks or appetizers are served, without having to stay in any of its rooms. It also has a spacious lounge with a fireplace for the colder months and where talks and workshops of various kinds take place throughout the year, in addition to all its gastronomic offer.

"Beyond a space thought out and designed in detail, we believe that the concept of boutique hotel connects with a different way of traveling", says one of the managers of Hotel Viento10, Gerardo Holgado Fornés. This establishment is located on Ronquillo Briceño street, a few meters from the banks of the Guadalquivir.

"A calmer and warmer way, perhaps a slow seduction of the senses in which the hotel has to be a fundamental part and not merely an indoor bed. With this idea in mind we created Hotel Viento10", says the manager .

This lodging was inaugurated in 2011 and has eight rooms. The project began about six years earlier, with the purchase of a house in the Old Town, on the old Calle del Viento. "The truth is that we were very lucky, because when we began the reform work we discovered a whole courtyard of columns until then hidden. It turns out that the house was part of a hospital that belonged to the parish of Santiago between the end of the fourteenth century and the beginning of the XV. We are proud to be a living part of the history of Córdoba," he says.

Among the services of the Hotel Viento10 is the spa with jacuzzi and sauna, massages, breakfast or parking, among others.

200 meters from the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba is the four-star Las Casas de la Judería de Córdoba hotel, whose original building construction dates back to 1597. With 64 rooms, it opened its doors in 2010.

It has seven floors and its distinguished architecture is added to its unique treatment and a wide range of possibilities in the form of additional services, such as a swimming pool open all year round.

The hotel is formed by the union of several old houses, being the Casa Palacio de las Pavas, the main one. It is made up of several Mudejar and Renaissance style patios and large terraces with views of the Mosque, some of them for private use for the most exclusive rooms.

In the heart of the Old Town of Córdoba, with its rooms distributed on two floors and a tower around three patios, is the Balcón de Córdoba hotel. On a hundred-year-old site, the hotel occupies a 17th-century building that has been successively intervened, presenting an eclectic style consistent with the history of the city, where classical, Islamic and Castilian traditions come together.

The hotel offers 10 rooms each endowed with a distinctive character, with articulate references to the mythological roots of Mediterranean culture. One of the jewels of this establishment is the terrace from which you can see a 360-degree postcard view of the entire city, framed in the serene background of the countryside and the Cordoba mountains.
